Off-site backup with BackupAssist and Rsync – “How-to” videos
Our Aussie friends over at BackupAssist developers Cortex IT have recently released a set of 5 excellent short videos showing how to configure an Rsync server from start to finish.
We also cover this setup procedure in our installation guide here, but if you are planning on setting up your own Rsync server using cwRsync, CopSSH and BackupAssist these are definitely worth a watch.
One of the most noticeable changes in version 7 of BackupAssist is how it looks and feels, so I thought I'd use this first of two preview posts to take an early look at the new interface in a little more detail.
Earlier iterations of BackupAssist have often been praised for their simple interface layout and ease of use, so when I first heard that the developers were looking to improve on this for version 7, I'll admit to being a little apprehensive!
If you're a small business user looking for ways to manage large amounts of email residing in your server or mailbox, the built-in archiving features of Outlook can understandably look pretty tempting. They're easy to use, they're right there in front of you and perhaps what makes them most attractive, they're free!
However, as you've probably anticipated from the title of my post, we're not the greatest fan of archiving to PST as a long-term solution to the issue and there are number of considerations worth being aware of before you rely on this as the primary method for archiving your company's email communications.
An important update of SecurityPlus has been released and all installations should be upgraded to version 4.1.5 as soon as possible.
