A new SSL vulnerability is doing the rounds this morning, known as POODLE, or Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption. POODLE is a newly disclosed vulnerability in the legacy SSL 3.0 protocol that could be exposing users of newer Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption protocols to risk. If exploited, the POODLE flaw could potentially enable an attacker to access and read encrypted communications.

New version of MailStoreThe launch of the latest and greatest version of MailStore Server was announced today by the German vendor. Version 9 boasts a long list of fantastic improvements for both end users and administrators alike - our pick of the bunch include the following...

BackupAssist version 8 The Aussie developers over at BackupAssist have been hard at work on the latest major release of their popular backup software for small businesses, and I'm pleased to be letting you know it's now available for download. This release is packed with new features and in this post we'll pick out both the highlights and a couple of important notes you should be aware of.

Product review by ITSMDailyIndependent analyst and security director for EncSec, Graeme Batsman has appeared in, and advised, publications including SC Magazine, The Independent, Microsoft, Metro, Experian and many more. Graeme had recently been testing a number of email security products including those from vendors such as Barracuda and Sophos when we contacted him about 'hot off the press' SecurityGateway version 3.0.

First launched back in 2008, SecurityGateway is the brainchild of Texas-based Alt-N technologies, developer of the popular alternative to Microsoft Exchange, MDaemon Messaging Server. When Alt-N realised that even users of Exchange were buying MDaemon to use as a pre-filter because of how well the spam and virus protection performed, it wasn't long before they took the decision to release a standalone, purpose-built product....enter SecurityGateway.

Cloud, private-cloud, multi-tennant, hosted, SaaS, service provider, xSP - the myriad of terminology used to describe products such as MailStore Service Provider Edition are practically endless it seems. This probably explains why lots of our partner program members, all typically IT support companies servicing SMB's, have been asking for further clarification around exactly what this new version of MailStore actually is and how it works before they've been able to decide whether it's right for them. For this reason we're now running a small number of free 30 minute(ish) webinar sessions which will answer the questions - "What is it?" and "Is it for me?". Essentially it is a high level overview and then time for a group Q & A.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that the public launch of Microsoft's SQL Server 2014, on any Product Manager's dream launch date of April 1st, managed to somehow completely pass me by.  This did however, make it all the more impressive when our friends over at BackupAssist announced they've already implemented support for it in their latest version of their fantastic backup software for small businesses. This now officially expands BackupAssist SQL support to include: SQL 2014, SQL 2012, SQL 2008/R2 and SQL 2005.
