BackupAssist's MultiSite Manager (BAMM) is here, and if you're a registered partner program member, it's completely free for your own use. If you manage more than a handful of BackupAssist customers, I hope this will be music to your ears, particularly if you're spending more time than you'd like checking the many emailed backup reports coming in from your various client sites every day. Please note: BAMM is the replacement for BackupAssist's legacy Centralised Monitoring Console (CMC) which is now no longer supported. I'll explain the key differences between the two in the moment, but if you're a reseller currently using the CMC, we highly recommend you migrate and here's why...

With the recent Panda Antivirus signature problem still fresh in my mind, and as a fair few of our support calls continue to be antivirus related, I thought you might find it useful if I share some of the antivirus issues we see regularly tripping customers up. Of course every software vendor professes their product incorporates the latest and greatest protection technology. When you're working out what to use as a Systems Administrator however, it's also important to think beyond that and specifically about how your proposed solution will interact with other applications in your network environment. These are a handful of the areas we find usually end up resulting in a support call.

If you're already backing up your email as part of a standard routine, you could be forgiven for thinking that adding archiving to the mix would needlessly be doubling up. I should mention at this point, if you're not doing anything at all, then you really need to be rectifying that situation rather than reading our blog (as nice as it is to have you).

Alt-N Technologies, BackupAssist, MailStore....they were all there. And that's not all, we were even fortunate enough to bag a couple of inspirational guest victims speakers! Yes, just in case you've missed us shouting about it every five minutes, last month was our "PartnerMeet" event in Canary Wharf. As you've probably gathered, we don't do these that often (as often as we should!) and we were thrilled with the way it went, not least because of the great presentations made by the speakers we'd lined up for the day. If you weren't able to make it along then a) forever hold your head in shame and b) do not fear, we planned for this and took the liberty of booking a film crew to capture the lot. Enjoy footage in glorious HD of each and every presentation on the day....

Acronis ComparisonSelecting backup software is an important decision. You need to compare your data protection needs against the features provided, and make a careful evaluation of what backup solution provides the best value. In this post we explore some of the key requirements, and how both Acronis and BackupAssist support them.

Backup Exec ComparisonWhich backup software is best for your business? It’s a question that leads to many more. What can the software back up? What restore options does it have? Can it perform a system recovery? What is the support like? How much does it cost? In this post I look at the features required for a comprehensive backup solution, and compare Symantec Backup Exec and BackupAssist’s support for those features.
