UPDATE: 10/12/13 Google released Android 4.4.2 today and I can confirm that this now fixes the Exchange sync issue on my Nexus 5. See below for more details... A couple of us in the office have just taken delivery of some shiny new Nexus 5's - fantastic devices we're really happy with but we've unfortunately both come across what looks to be a known issue setting up the ActiveSync connection to synchronise them with MDaemon Messaging Server. MDaemon has an integrated ActiveSync server but this issue with the devices will also apply to those of you who use Microsoft Exchange.

BackupAssist announcementIn the latest version of BackupAssist (7.3.1), there was a change to the activation process I'd like to make you aware of as it's understandably catching a few customers out. In the latest version there was a change implemented to help ensure that as a customer you're on the 'local' build of the software, complete with support links that point back to our technical team here in the UK.

BackupAssist Technical Support InsightWe often get support queries where the PC clock has been the cause of an issue but never have I seen a few minutes of drift make such a difference. This one isn't actually specific to BackupAssist but it did rear its head with a customer who happened to be storing their backups on a local NAS. The backup job in question was a 'file protection' one, so the simple backup of files to a local network share as a destination. The job had run fine for many days without errors but suddenly overnight the job would fail with an error like the one below:-

Create a disposable email address using MDaemonI recently stumbled across this post about Outlook.com accounts which talks about being able to give out a temporary valid email address, without having to reveal your main account - something you can also do in MDaemon Messaging Server. The 'sub-addressing' feature in MDaemon has been around for years but it's one of those that's often overlooked because it's a little buried in the account options section.

Move your BackupAssist folderIf you've been using BackupAssist for a long time, and the drive you installed it on wasn't the largest to begin with, you might be finding it's starting to outgrow it. Your BackupAssist installation folder will become larger over time, primarily because it stores reports and diagnostic files in the program data folder. Why not just delete old reports? Well you could, and that will help as a quick fix but it will only stop the problem temporarily. The developers are aware that some more options would be useful here to better manage this, but in the meantime, here's a simple workaround you can deploy to reclaim that space by moving BackupAssist to a different drive which takes up most of the space.

Interested in MailStore but too busy to install the trial? Struggling to fit in a live webinar? A close second are the recorded versions I post from time to time on the Zen Software Youtube Channel like this one, entitled an Introduction to MailStore. No, you won't get to ask me lots of awkward questions via the live chat which is obviously a shame (!), but it is better suited to skimming through over a coffee if you're flat-out taking care of the day job.

MDaemon provides support for all of the major mobile platforms via its integrated ActiveSync support, so it's nice and straight-forward to connect your device, whatever it might be, and have your email, calendar, contacts and other important data available on the move. Until the recent release of iOS 7, there's never been the option available on the iPhone to synchronise notes, however we're pleased to let you know that it's here, and it couldn't be much easier to enable!

Worldclient as a Chrome appOne of the nice things about using a different browser to Internet Explorer, are the hidden functions that you find are added to make them stand out from the crowd. Google Chrome has long been my favourite browser for many different reasons but it was only recently that I came across a very useful built-in feature that can turn any web page into an application shortcut.

Integrating previously archived emails from other third-party archiving solutions is not a new feature in MailStore but from version 8.1 it has been made much easier thanks to a new archiving profile job. This new profile can archive and sort emails collected from file sources and so it opens up a realm of possibilities and very much simplifies the process.
