Back up your data off-site with RsyncThis is the second series of fantastic of "how-to" videos to be released by developer Cortex, this time aimed at helping users check and resolve common VSS issues.
Whether you've already come across something similar or just want to further your technical understanding of the product, we'd highly recommend a watch when you get a moment...

As well as letting you know whether or not the MDaemon server is running, the MDaemon envelope icon in the system tray will also change colour depending on the current server status. Where is the envelope icon? When MDaemon is running as a system service it will show a status icon in the system tray. Unfortunately the latest Microsoft Operating systems restrict running  services from interacting with the desktop automatically. Within Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 you will only see the MDaemon system tray icon after you have launched the MDaemon configuration session from the start menu at least once as the logged in user. You can then close the MDaemon configuration session and the icon will remain.

BackupAssist imaging jobs utilise the Microsoft Windows imaging engine to backup and write your data. As some of you may already be aware, there is a known Microsoft issue when using the Windows imaging engine to back up to a destination drive that is utilising 4K bytes per cluster. This typically relates to the larger (>2TB) USB hard drives that are now becoming more common. Some hard drives can be reformatted using 512 bytes per cluster rather than 4K bytes per cluster but unfortunately not all have this option.

We have seen two separate issues recently where MailStore had been configured to use directory services to synchronise its user list with an external source. One being an MDaemon mail server and the other on a machine running Kerio Connect. In both cases, even though the IMAP user account details were correct, the password check failed with an error that suggested a bad authentication result.

As you can imagine, this one's got the potential to cause a fair amount of head-scratching - I see it quite a lot too. Symptoms are that messages are being incorrectly quarantined by MDaemon's security module SecurityPlus even though the message is from a trusted sender and the attachment is clean of any viruses. Typically when we look into these examples there is one common factor.

If you're anything like me, you probably don't have enough time in the day to be checking all of the industry blogs you really should if you want to keep properly up to speed. Ours is a great way to locate news on releases, technical tips and marketing support among other things, but like all the others, it does require checking frequently in order that you don't miss anything.

One of the most notable changes visually in Windows 8 is the range of new apps that now appear on the "Start" page. In a similar vein to mobile devices, there are email and calendar apps which now integrate tightly, offering handy features such as notifications. It's easy to see why some users will end up switching to this as their preferred method of access, so in this post I'll show you how to configure MDaemon to synchronise with these two key apps.
