You've probably picked up in the IT press that the developers of TrueCrypt, currently integrated within BackupAssist, are no longer actively developing the software. A recent independent audit published by iSEC has not identified any security flaws in TrueCrypt, however at some point in the future, it's likely vulnerabilities may creep into it. DISCLAIMER: We're not suggesting you need to switch away immediately and ultimately fully expect to see a new encryption application integrated into BackupAssist. However....I like to tinker...

First launched back in 2008, SecurityGateway is the brainchild of Texas-based Alt-N technologies, developer of the popular alternative to Microsoft Exchange, MDaemon Messaging Server. When Alt-N realised that even users of Exchange were buying MDaemon to use as a pre-filter because of how well the spam and virus protection performed, it wasn't long before they took the decision to release a standalone, purpose-built product....enter SecurityGateway.

MDaemon maintenance releaseMorning folks, just a quick one to let you know Alt-N Technologies have just released an update for MDaemon Messaging Server and it includes some highly recommended security updates among other things. Those other things... In 14.0.2 you'll find a raft of tweaks and improvements along with a couple of minor branding changes. The more observant of you may notice that WebAdmin is now referred to as "MDaemon Remote Administration" and ComAgent is now the "WorldClient Instant Messenger". You'll also find some usability tweaks in Worldclient such as the ability to nickname favourite folders.

Cloud, private-cloud, multi-tennant, hosted, SaaS, service provider, xSP - the myriad of terminology used to describe products such as MailStore Service Provider Edition are practically endless it seems. This probably explains why lots of our partner program members, all typically IT support companies servicing SMB's, have been asking for further clarification around exactly what this new version of MailStore actually is and how it works before they've been able to decide whether it's right for them. For this reason we're now running a small number of free 30 minute(ish) webinar sessions which will answer the questions - "What is it?" and "Is it for me?". Essentially it is a high level overview and then time for a group Q & A.

In most deployments of MailStore we recommend your journalling job is configured to archive a selection of journalled or 'copied' emails for all your users. This type of job is designed to interrogate each message that it archives and look for headers that it can match to decide which user's archive it should store the message under. In a perfect installation where all of your MailStore users have been setup correctly, every journalled message should find the correct corresponding users archive. But it is common to overlook some addresses and you may find email appearing in the general 'Unknown e-mail archive' instead.
