We have seen two separate issues recently where MailStore had been configured to use directory services to synchronise its user list with an external source. One being an MDaemon mail server and the other on a machine running Kerio Connect. In both cases, even though the IMAP user account details were correct, the password check failed with an error that suggested a bad authentication result.

As you can imagine, this one's got the potential to cause a fair amount of head-scratching - I see it quite a lot too. Symptoms are that messages are being incorrectly quarantined by MDaemon's security module SecurityPlus even though the message is from a trusted sender and the attachment is clean of any viruses. Typically when we look into these examples there is one common factor.

We've had a few customers asking about whether our backup software BackupAssist can be used to restore old backups originally created using NTBackup, to a new 2008 server. This isn't such a crazy idea when you consider that at the point that you upgrade to Server 2008 you may well have a large history of old backups from your old 2003 server and still need files from within them on your new server.

RDX DriveOne trend I've noticed since we've been supplying  BackupAssist is the popularity of RDX and REV drives for image backups, particularly in small and medium-sized businesses. I put this down mainly to how cost-effective they can be in comparison to similar capacity tape devices, and also that they still provide that same familiar multiple cartridge approach that tape device users are used to.

I came across an issue on a support call the other day I thought worth sharing as it's bound to be something a few of you will see too.
The customer I was talking to was using the Windows imaging engine in BackupAssist to back up both their system drive 'C:' and a large data drive 'D:' (used for every day document storage etc.).
This was working just as expected and backups were updating quickly to a local USB hard drive when the inevitable happened - they had a local hard drive failure and of course wanted to perform a bare metal recovery from the last good image backup.
