Naming your devices

< 1 min read

In order to make the Untangle dashboard widgets and reports easier to read it is helpful to link known IP addresses to devices

You can do this by naming as many devices you can under the ‘Devices button’

Within this window, you can click on any black ‘Hostname’ and give this device a name ( remember to click save to action this)

  • Often the Vendor of the NIC will help identify a device
  • Also check for the HTTP Agent as this can give clues as to what devices are
  • You can use the web filter to look at url requests to match IP’s that then relate to hosts to also discover Devices
  • You can use the windows command arp-a to list all known macs and IP’s on a pc to help link IPs to mac addresses if they have not yet sent traffic via the untangle box.
