Those of you already familiar with MDaemon and Texas-based developer Alt-N Technologies, will know that feedback from customers has always played a pivotal role in the way their products evolve.
The MDaemon beta community has been fundamental to this process but as we look towards the future and the imminent release of version 13, they're opening this up and making it simple for anyone to contribute ideas and suggestions via their Idea Engine.
I mentioned ActiveSync policies in my last post, well version 13 also sees the addition of one extra small, but very nice feature, in the ability to simplify the self sign-up process for mobile devices using the Autodiscover process.
By removing the necessity to know the public DNS name or IP address of your MDaemon server, all a user now needs to connect their mobile device is their email address and password.
Towards the end of my last post I touched on the fact that Microsoft's recent announcement to drop Small Business Server next year has given particularly its partner community, reasons to look around at potential alternative solutions to Exchange.
In this post I take a moment to highlight some of the reasons MDaemon Messaging Server should be on that list of alternatives you might be considering, including how the costs look alongside the equivalent Microsoft products.
Last week Neil and I traded our keyboards and mice for a transit van filled with exhibition equipment, half a tonne of assorted promotional items and a rainy afternoon on the M4. Our mission, to capture the attentions of a good chunk of the 12,500 attendees to InfoSecurity Europe and talk to them about our core products, BackupAssist, MailStore and MDaemon.
We're but a few weeks away from the annual industry pilgrimage to Earls Court for the biggest of the IT and security shows in this country, InfoSecurity Europe. Each year IT professionals (and the not-so) gather at InfoSec to take in keynote talks from industry experts, strengthen relationships with customers and suppliers, keep an eye on the competition and of course, pick up plenty of promotional tat for the kids.
This year will be slightly different however, as visitors will notice that the show's noticeably better than previous ones thanks to the addition of the Zen Software stand in the new exhibitor area. It's possible I'm overestimating the impact we'll have but in any case, we're genuinely pleased to be a part of the show and that we'll be down there unashamedly flogging our wares in our compact but charming booth (K94). 
As MDaemon has evolved over the years there have been many different ways to setup syncronisation with mobile devices and with the the recent introduction of ActiveSync push email there is a new kid on the block but does this now make ActiveSync the best all in one method for email, calendar and contact syncronisation for all customers who can use it?
